BAPS Hindu Mandir in Abu Dhabi Hosts Interfaith Cultural Evening ‘Omsiyyat’ Promoting Unity and Understanding

In a heartwarming display of interfaith solidarity and cultural exchange, the BAPS Hindu Mandir in Abu Dhabi recently hosted the vibrant event ‘Omsiyyat’, bringing together over 200 leaders and community members from diverse faiths and backgrounds, said an ANI report.

Set against the backdrop of the newly inaugurated Hindu temple, ‘Omsiyyat’ served as a platform for dialogue, celebration, and mutual respect during the holy month of Ramadan. The event welcomed prominent figures including Sheikh Nahayan bin Mabarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of State for Foreign Trade, and Dr. Mugheer Khamis Al Khaili, Chairman of the Department of Community Development, among others.

Leaders from various religious communities, such as Rabbi Jeff Berger of the Abrahamic Family House, Rabbi Levi Duchmann, Father Lalji of the Church of South India Parish, and Bahá’í community representatives, joined the gathering, underscoring the importance of unity and diversity.

Rabbi Jeff Berger expressed his appreciation for the event, stating, “Unity in diversity is not just a principle; it’s a practice, vividly demonstrated here tonight. This event symbolizes our shared journey towards understanding and respect.”

Sheikh Nahayan commended the BAPS Hindu Mandir for its role in promoting tolerance and understanding, especially in a world marked by conflicts and distrust. He highlighted the temple’s significant contribution towards fostering peace and coexistence.

Swami Brahmaviharidas, Head of the BAPS Hindu Mandir, Abu Dhabi, reiterated the mandir’s message of love, peace, and harmony, drawing inspiration from Mahant Swami Maharaj. He expressed gratitude towards the UAE leadership and attendees for their support and shared the sentiments of a former space scientist, emphasizing Abu Dhabi as a beacon of harmony and unity.

The evening concluded with a vegetarian ‘suhoor’ meal featuring Arabic and Indian cuisine prepared by temple volunteers, symbolizing communal sharing and togetherness.

‘Omsiyyat’: An Interfaith Cultural Evening’ left a lasting impact, resonating not only with attendees but with the wider community in the UAE and beyond. The event exemplified the ongoing mission of interfaith harmony, demonstrating that through mutual respect and collaboration, unity can be achieved, even if only for a moment.
