Bengal CM Plans Communal Harmony Rally on January 22

Kolkata, Jan. 17: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has announced communal harmony rally on January 22, the day the Ayodhya Ram temple will be consecrated.

The party has also announced that the “Sarba Dharm rally” will include people from all communities and will pass through various religious places – Temples, Churches, Gurudwaras and Masjids on its route.

On January 22, the party will also hold block-wise rallies across Bengal with a “Sampriti (Affection)” theme. The party believes that all religions are equal and people from all religions and communities will be present at the rally.

Ms Banerjee is also among other opposition party leaders who have announced to keep from the Ayodhya Ram temple consecration. Banerjee has declined to attend the event by calling it a “political gimmick”.

She said, “I believe in a festival which takes everyone together, talks about everyone. Do whatever you want, you are doing a gimmick before the elections, do it, I have no problem but disregarding people of other communities is not right. I will never allow discrimination between Hindus and Muslims as long as I am alive.”

This rally will conclude at the city’s Park Circus Maidan, where Ms Banerjee will address a public meeting.
