Bengaluru: Extending its role beyond worship to community healthcare, the Hajee Sir Ismail Sait Masjid Wakf in Frazer Town has inaugurated a Day Care Centre and announced plans to establish a dialysis facility for patients in need.
The Day Care Centre was inaugurated at the Masjid Wakf premises on Mosque Road in the presence of A. C. Srinivasa, MLA, Prestige Group Chairman Dr Irfan Razack, Wakf office-bearers, doctors and other guests.
The new centre adds to the charitable medical services already being provided by the Wakf, including medical assistance and free medicines to needy patients. The initiative seeks to make basic healthcare more accessible to people who find the cost of treatment difficult to bear.
Speaking on the occasion, Srinivasa stressed the importance of community institutions contributing to healthcare and education and said such services could help improve the lives of ordinary people.
The Wakf also announced that a dialysis centre is planned as its next healthcare project, particularly to support kidney patients who require repeated treatment and face a heavy recurring expense.
The mosque itself carries a long tradition of philanthropy. Hajee Sir Ismail Sait, a prominent Memon businessman and philanthropist of the British period, donated land and contributed substantially towards building the mosque, which came to bear his name. His charitable work extended to several institutions in Bengaluru and other parts of Karnataka. He also played a crucial role in the development of Gosha Hospital in Bengaluru, established to provide maternity and medical care to purdah-observing Muslim women.
The opening of the Day Care Centre continues that tradition, placing healthcare and service to people alongside the mosque’s religious role.
