Mumbai: The delay in constructing the much-needed Mother and Child Hospital in Bhivandi echoed in the Maharashtra Assembly during the ongoing budget session at Vidhan Bhavan on Wednesday. Bhivandi MLA Rais Shaikh raised concerns over the sluggish progress, emphasizing the dire need to complete the hospital and make it operational.
Shaikh highlighted that Bhivandi, with a population of 18 lakh, relies on a single hospital, IGM, which is insufficient to meet healthcare demands. He pointed out that despite the central government’s approval and a four-year-long struggle, construction has been progressing at a mere 27% completion rate in 376 days—raising doubts about its timely completion.
“Will the remaining 73% of work be completed in just 24 days?” Shaikh questioned, expressing frustration over the lack of accountability. He urged the government to adhere to CVC guidelines and take action against those responsible for delays.
In response, Health Minister Prakash Abitkar assured that within a month, a visit would be conducted with senior officials and any shortcomings would be addressed. He further stated that the hospital is expected to be completed by November, offering a glimmer of hope to Bhivandi’s residents.
