Muslim Community Protests in Bhopal Over Assault and Humiliation of Youth

Bhopal: Hundreds of members of the Muslim community staged a protest in Bhopal against the alleged assault and public humiliation of a Muslim youth in the Govindpura area.

The protest took place two days after the incident involving Arif Khan, who was allegedly attacked at a hotel in Gautam Nagar after being accused of being with a woman from another faith.

Demonstrators gathered at the Kaziyat premises under the leadership of Bhopal City Qazi Syed Mushtaq Ali Nadvi. Protesters demanded the immediate arrest of those involved and raised concerns over the conduct of police personnel present during the incident.

The protesters later marched to the Police Control Room and submitted a memorandum to Police Commissioner Sanjay Kumar. Community leaders sought strict legal action against the accused and departmental action against officers accused of failing to intervene.

Addressing the gathering, Qazi Nadvi described the incident as an attack on communal harmony and religious sentiments. He alleged that police officers present at the scene did not stop the attackers and allowed the situation to escalate.

Congress MLAs Arif Masood and Atif Aqueel joined the protest along with AIMIM leader Mohsin Ali.

Police Commissioner Sanjay Kumar stated that investigators are examining all aspects of the case, including the role of police personnel present during the incident. He confirmed that a criminal case has already been registered and teams are reviewing video footage to identify and arrest the accused.

According to police, the woman involved informed authorities that she had been in a live-in relationship with Khan for five years and had accompanied him voluntarily.
