New Delhi: The strong opposition to the Waqf Amendment Bill, which began at Jantar Mantar in the national capital under the leadership of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB), is now resonating across the country. The movement is set to reach Bihar, where various Muslim organizations, under the guidance of AIMPLB, have announced a peaceful protest against the Waqf Amendment Bill 2024.
The protest is scheduled to take place on March 26, 2025 (Wednesday), from 10 AM to 2 PM at Gardani Bagh, Patna. Prominent leaders of the Muslim Personal Law Board and representatives of various social and welfare organizations from across Bihar will participate in the demonstration. The protest aims to raise awareness and mobilize opposition against the controversial bill, which is being seen as a threat to Muslim rights and religious properties.
Muslim organizations have urged mosque imams to highlight the issue in their sermons. They have been asked to educate the public on the religious significance of Waqf, its role in Islam, and the harmful implications of the proposed amendments. The goal is to raise awareness among the Muslim community and encourage collective resistance against the bill.
The protest organizers have accused the central government of attempting to seize control of Muslim religious institutions and Waqf properties through its allies. They have described the Waqf Amendment Bill 2024 as an “oppressive law” designed to dispossess Muslims of their religious assets.
An AIMPLB representative stated that the bill is a direct attack on the constitutional rights of minorities in India. Various organizations, including Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Jamiat Ulama-e-Bihar, and the All India Milli Council Bihar, have collectively opposed the bill, deeming it a violation of Islamic principles.
The General Secretary of Jamiat Ulama Bihar emphasized that Waqf is not just a charitable act but a religious obligation. He asserted that any amendment jeopardizing the protection of Waqf properties or violating the donor’s intent is an interference in Islamic law and is completely unacceptable.
Muslim leaders have urged Bihar’s residents, community leaders, and mosque imams to actively participate in the historic protest. They believe that a strong and unified opposition will send a clear message to the government and increase pressure for the bill’s withdrawal.
