New Delhi: The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has raised alarm over what it describes as mass and unjust deletions of Muslim voters in Bihar. Board chief Maulana Khalid Saifullah Rahmani warned that the move threatens democratic rights and the Constitution.
Speaking during a private visit to Mumbai, Rahmani said the issue goes beyond politics. “Mass deletion of voters’ names is a blatant injustice. It is about the survival of democracy and public rights,” he stated. He urged citizens across India to unite in defense of constitutional values.
The Maulana also criticized the Uniform Civil Code bill passed in Uttarakhand, calling it unconstitutional. He argued that the law was a Hindu code imposed under the guise of uniformity. “If tribals have been exempted from this law, then where is the uniformity,” he asked. The Board has already moved court against the bill and expressed confidence in receiving justice.
On the Waqf Amendment Act, Rahmani noted that Muslims nationwide have organized peaceful protests, including black armband campaigns, candlelight vigils, and memorandum submissions. He condemned the government’s refusal to permit a large gathering in Mumbai, saying such restrictions undermine basic democratic rights.
Rahmani stressed that the Board’s position is not linked to any political party. “This issue is directly connected to democracy and the Constitution. We are not supporting any particular party. This fight is to save the Constitution,” he said. He called on all citizens who value justice to unite and resist these developments.
