Bihar Vendor Mohammed Mohsin Beaten to Death Over Rs 5

Jehanabad: A 70-year-old Muslim vendor was beaten to death in Kako village of Bihar’s Jehanabad district after a dispute over a toll payment of five rupees. The victim, Mohammed Mohsin, was at the local market with his minor grandson when the incident occurred.

According to police, a man identified as Vicky Patel demanded Rs 15 as toll money from Mohsin. The elderly vendor paid Rs 10 and requested time to arrange the remaining Rs 5. Patel allegedly refused and insisted on immediate payment. In anger, he picked up a dumbbell and struck Mohsin on the stomach and head. Mohsin collapsed on the spot and died in front of his grandson.

Witnesses reported that the body lay in the market for hours while people continued their daily routine. Police have filed a case of murder under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Patel is absconding.

The case gained political attention after photographs of the accused surfaced with Bihar’s Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Chaudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, along with other BJP leaders. The images triggered sharp criticism from opposition leaders.

Congress MP Imran Pratapgarhi condemned the incident, calling it proof of the “Jungle Raj of Bihar.” He said the killing of an elderly man over five rupees highlighted the collapse of law and order in the state.

The victim’s family is demanding justice and immediate arrest of the accused. Community members in Jehanabad expressed anger over the brutal killing and the apathy shown at the marketplace.
