Kasaragod: A.K.M. Ashraf, MLA of Manjeshwar and leader of the Indian Union Muslim League, has accused the BJP of attempting to delete Muslim voters through the ongoing Special Intensive Revision process.
Ashraf appeared before the Electoral Registration Officer along with seven residents who received notices under Form 7 seeking removal of their names. He alleged that after losing the last election by 845 votes, the BJP is trying to alter the electoral roll.
He cited Booth No. 128, where he said BJP district secretary Lokesh Londa sought removal of 90 applications. The Assistant Returning Officer advised that such requests must go through Form 7 online. Soon after, seven individuals received notices. Ashraf said one of them, Mohammed, who has lived and voted in the constituency for years, now faces claims of being a non citizen. Six others were marked as permanently shifted.
Ashraf questioned the basis of these decisions and alleged coordination between BJP leaders and certain officials. He said elderly residents were dragged into proceedings without cause. He also alleged that first time voters faced rejection despite submitting documents.
The District Collector stated that 123 applications were heard on Friday, eight under Form 7 and 115 under Form 8. Authorities followed the Representation of the People Act, 1950, and issued notices before taking decisions. The Collector said the Electoral Registration Officer acts independently and that appeals remain open under Section 24(a).
Under the Special Intensive Revision, 24.08 lakh names were removed from the draft roll. Kerala had 2,78,50,856 registered voters as of October 2025. Several parties have raised concerns over exclusions and verification timelines.
