BJP Assam Sparks Outrage With Islamophobic AI Video

Guwahati: The Assam unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has drawn sharp criticism after sharing an AI generated video on X that portrayed Muslims in a derogatory and communal manner. The video, titled “Assam Without BJP,” showed Muslims occupying public spaces including Guwahati Airport, Ranghar, stadiums, and other landmarks. It also attempted to link the Congress party with Pakistan by depicting Rahul Gandhi alongside a Pakistani official.

Social media users accused the BJP of using divisive tactics to spread hate against Muslims. Many expressed concern that such content could provoke tensions in Assam, where communal harmony is fragile. Journalists, activists, and political commentators condemned the move, saying it normalizes hate politics and vilifies an entire community.

Tanpreet Sehgal, a user on X, described the video as hateful and genocidal. Dr Aratrika Ganguly said it was unacceptable for an official party handle to spread misinformation aimed at targeting citizens based on religion. Several others highlighted how the BJP repeatedly reduces political discourse to Hindu-Muslim divisions.

This is not the first time the party has used such content. Earlier, the BJP’s Jharkhand unit shared a similar video that showed Muslims taking over people’s homes. Critics say these attempts are meant to deepen communal polarization ahead of elections.

The controversy came a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while inaugurating a project in Assam, accused the Congress of siding with “anti-nationals” and “infiltrators.” Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has also made statements suggesting Muslims will outnumber Hindus in the state by 2041.
