BJP Targets TMC MLA Over Babri Masjid Remarks as Political Tensions Rise in Bengal

Patna: Union Minister Giriraj Singh criticised Trinamool Congress MLA Humayun Kabir for his statement on laying the foundation stone of a Babri Masjid in Murshidabad on December 6. He said the TMC was creating tension in West Bengal and claimed the party relied on the support of Bangladeshis and Rohingyas. He accused the state government of using sensitive issues for electoral gain.

Singh said the announcement was not about a mosque. He said it reflected what he described as the TMC’s political dependence on external groups. He warned that such politics would not help the party.

BJP leader Ashwini Kumar Choubey also condemned the idea. He said no temple or mosque should be built in the name of Babur. He said people with destructive intent were disturbing social harmony.

Kabir had announced a plan to lay the foundation stone of a Babri Masjid in Beldanga on the thirty third anniversary of the demolition of the structure in Ayodhya. He said Muslim leaders would attend the event and the construction would take three years.

BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla said Kabir’s comments aimed to polarise voters. He said the remarks insulted Hindu beliefs and accused the TMC of pursuing vote bank politics.

Congress leader Udit Raj supported Kabir. He said religious freedom allowed such activities. He said those opposing the plan were creating speculation.
