Senior BJP leader Dilip Ghosh from West Bengal has sparked controversy after a video emerged showing him threatening a woman protester during an event in Kharagpur’s Ward 6 on March 21, 2025. Ghosh was there to inaugurate a newly constructed road when he was confronted by local women questioning his absence during his tenure as a Member of Parliament (MP).
One of the women asked, “Where were you all this time? We never saw you when you were an MP. Now that our councillor has built the road, you show up?” In response, Ghosh reacted aggressively, calling the protesters Trinamool Congress (TMC) supporters and saying, “I have given the money for this; it is not your father’s money! Go and ask Pradip Sarkar (the local TMC councillor) about it!”
The situation escalated when Ghosh threatened one of the women, saying, “Don’t scream like that, I will choke you.” The comment was caught on video and quickly went viral, triggering outrage from political opponents and civil society groups.
Local police had to intervene as tensions grew, with some protesters allegedly attempting to hit Ghosh’s vehicle. Following the incident, Ghosh accused the protestors of being TMC workers and claimed they were seeking benefits from government schemes. He defended his actions, stating that the road was built with Rs 2.6 lakh from his MPLAD fund, while also blaming the local municipality for failing to complete the project earlier.
TMC councillor Pradip Sarkar strongly condemned Ghosh’s remarks, stating that he had insulted the women and disrespected their families. The incident led to protests outside Ghosh’s residence, where TMC and BJP supporters clashed.
The controversy surrounding Ghosh’s remarks has added to the growing tensions in West Bengal’s political landscape, with calls for accountability and action against his behavior.
