Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Uma Bharti has strongly condemned Madhya Pradesh Minister Vijay Shah for his controversial remarks against Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, the first woman officer to lead an all-men Army contingent at the Republic Day parade in 2016, reported the ANI.
Taking to social media, Bharti urged Chief Minister Mohan Yadav to immediately dismiss Shah from his ministerial post and register a criminal case against him. She stated that Vijay Shah’s comments not only insult a proud and decorated officer of the Indian Army but also reflect a deeply misogynistic and communal mindset.
“Col. Sofiya Qureshi has brought immense pride to the nation. Any attempt to malign her image is an insult to every Indian woman and every soldier of the country,” Bharti said.
She further added that such statements do not align with the values of the BJP or the dignity of public service and must be dealt with sternly.
The issue has sparked outrage on social media, with many users demanding accountability and respect for women in uniform.
