BJP MP’s ‘Muslim League’ Remark Draws Sharp Political Reaction Amid Karnataka Leadership Tension

New Delhi: BJP MP Damodar Agarwal attacked Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge during the ongoing uncertainty over the Chief Minister’s post in Karnataka. Agarwal alleged that the Congress follows a pattern of Muslim appeasement. He said the party should rename itself as the Muslim League. His comments added heat to a debate already active in political circles.

Kharge had addressed questions on speculation around a leadership change. He said the party high command will discuss the matter. He named Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi as part of the team that will take the final call. He said the leaders will sit together and assess the situation in the state. His remarks came as a response to growing talk about the 2023 power sharing arrangement between Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar.

Agarwal dismissed Kharge’s comments. He said only the views of the Gandhi family matter in such situations. He claimed the Congress has reduced itself to a platform for one section of society. His remarks drew responses from Congress supporters who said the attack reflects the BJP’s attempt to shift attention away from internal issues.

Siddaramaiah addressed reporters in Karnataka. He said he will travel to Delhi if the high command asks him to do so. His statement followed signals from Kharge that the final decision will include inputs from the state leadership. The Karnataka government reached the halfway point of its term on November 20, which intensified discussion on the agreement reached in 2023.
