BJP MP Raghunandan Rao Demands Data on Madrasas, Illegal Pakistanis and Bangladeshis in Telangana

Hyderabad: BJP MP from Medak, Raghunandan Rao, on Friday, May 2, urged Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to disclose details of illegal Pakistani and Bangladeshi residents in the state. He linked the issue to recent incidents of communal disturbance, including alleged temple desecrations, reported the Siasat.

Rao cited multiple such incidents, including the Durga Devi Mandap vandalism in Nampally, idol destruction in Vikarabad and Hyderabad’s Old City, and most recently, the Muthyalamma temple incident in Jinnaram. The MP controversially claimed that children from a local madrasa were responsible for vandalising a Shiva idol. However, police and CCTV footage later confirmed that monkeys had entered the temple from the nearby forest in search of food and caused the damage.
Before official clarification, a right-wing group retaliated by attacking the madrasa, escalating tensions in the region.
Referring to the madrasa, Rao questioned the background of its students. “Out of 70 students, 65 are said to have come from Kishanganj in Bihar, but no one has their proper details. Locals suspect many of them may not be Indian citizens,” he alleged.
He also referred to past incidents where municipal officials found illegal Bangladeshi nationals with voter IDs and Aadhaar cards. Expressing concern over law and order, Rao said, “The situation in Telangana is like embers beneath ashes—potentially explosive.”
The BJP MP questioned the status and legitimacy of madrasas in the state. “How many are officially recognised, and how many are operating without permission? Do we have student records, family backgrounds, and nationality information? What kind of curriculum is being taught? There are widespread suspicions that anti-national ideologies are being propagated,” he alleged.
In light of the recent terror attack in Kashmir’s Pahalgam, he reminded the state government of the Home Ministry’s instructions to deport illegal Pakistani residents. “How many such individuals have been deported? What actions have been taken against other foreign nationals living illegally? The people of Telangana have a right to know,” he asserted.
He concluded by urging CM Revanth Reddy to conduct a thorough review of madrasas and their students and ensure transparency for the sake of public safety and education.
