Blatant Misuse of Govt Machinery, Model Code Violation Led to AAP’s Defeat: Sisodia

–Abdul Baari Masoud
New Delhi: Former Deputy Chief Minister and AAP leader Manish Sisodia blamed the party’s election defeat on the misuse of public funds, government machinery, and alcohol. He lost Jangpura to BJP’s Tarvinder Singh Marwah by 675 votes, while Congress’ Farhad Suri finished third with 7,350 votes.
Speaking to the media, Sisodia said AAP candidates fought bravely despite the blatant misuse of state resources, money, and liquor, along with election rule violations. He added that Arvind Kejriwal urged AAP candidates to continue serving the public despite the results.
Asked about the election review, Sisodia said discussions will continue. He noted that the unfair environment—with cash, liquor, and even sarees distributed, along with state machinery misuse—made contesting difficult. Despite this, AAP candidates fought well.
BJP won nine of 13 close contests with margins under 5,000 votes, while AAP won four. Sisodia reiterated Kejriwal’s directive for losing candidates to stay connected with people and continue public service.
He added that their experience will help AAP expand beyond Delhi, reaffirming its commitment to public welfare and government accountability.
