BMC Faces Resistance in Dharavi, Forced to Withdraw Mosque Demolition Order

Mumbai’s Dharavi witnessed a strong protest on 90 Feet Road near the Himalaya Hotel, as BMC’s team attempted to demolish a part of Masjid Mehboob Subhani, claiming it to be illegal. The team faced intense resistance from the local community, forcing them to retreat empty-handed.

The demolition order was eventually revoked, much to the relief of the Muslim community. What stood out in this event was the remarkable unity shown by Muslims across various sects. Breaking down any internal divisions, they all gathered in solidarity at the Dharavi Police Station in defense of the mosque.

The overwhelming crowd took the administration by surprise, with thousands and thousands of people leaving their businesses and daily work to protest the action. The sheer number of people, as well as their collective determination, sent a clear message that further attempts to target mosques would not be tolerated.

The protesters emphasized that they would continue to exercise their democratic right to protest peacefully, which ultimately led to the cancellation of the demolition order. They urged the community to remain vigilant and to always raise their voices in defense of their rights. The event demonstrated the power of unity, with many reflecting that the strength of the protest played a key role in reversing the decision.
