Board Sparks Dispute in Gujarat Village, FIR Registered

Kheda: Tension rose in Nani Bhagol village of Matar taluka, Kheda district, after a board was placed outside a mosque declaring that Garba was prohibited around the mosque, dargah, and madrasa at Hussaini Chowk. The incident prompted protests from local Hindu groups, who filed a complaint with the police.

According to the complaint, the board restricted Garba celebrations near the religious institution. Hindu groups argued that such restrictions were against the principles of equality and religious freedom under the Constitution. They urged police to remove the board and take action against those who put it up.

Matar police station inspector R.N. Khat confirmed that the matter was brought to the authorities’ attention after protests. Police engaged with the mosque committee regarding the notice after which the writing on the board was painted over in black.

An FIR has been registered in connection with the case. Inspector Khat stated that an investigation is ongoing and that arrests will follow once inquiries are complete. He assured that measures will be taken to preserve peace and order in the village.

The board and subsequent protests have drawn attention to issues surrounding the celebration of religious events in mixed communities.

The survey of the incident continues, with police monitoring the situation closely to ensure it does not escalate further.
