Book Discussion on Prof. Iqbal S. Hasnain’s “Fault Lines in the Faith” Held at Jamia Hamdard

New Delhi: A stimulating discussion on the book Fault Lines in the Faith: How Events of 1979 Shaped the Islamic World, authored by Padma Shri awardee Prof. Iqbal S. Hasnain, took place at the Conference Hall, School of Chemical and Life Sciences (SCLS), Jamia Hamdard here Monday. The session began with recitation of Quranic verses by A. M. Farooqui, Imam of Rabea Mosque, setting a reflective tone for the event.

Prof. Iqbal S. Hasnain provided an in-depth analysis of his work, focusing on the significant impact of the pivotal events of 1979 on the Islamic world, and their continued relevance. He shed light on the fault lines these events created within Islamic societies and their global repercussions.

The event commenced with a warm welcome from Prof. Syeedun Nisa, Director of Hamdard Institute of International Studies, who greeted the esteemed guests, faculty, and students.

A keynote address was delivered by Prof. S.M. Azizuddin Hussain, Former Professor of History at Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi. His speech offered a rich historical context to the themes discussed in the book, providing further insight into the book’s exploration of contemporary Islamic thought.

Presiding over the session, Vice Chancellor of Jamia Hamdard, Prof. (Dr.) M. Afshar Alam, underscored the importance of fostering such intellectual debates, particularly on matters affecting faith and society. He praised the book for its academic depth and its relevance in understanding the complexities of modern Islamic identity.

Prof. (Dr.) Ajay Kumar Singh, Dean, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, introduced the book, discussing its significance within the academic landscape. He emphasized its role in provoking dialogue on the events that have shaped the Islamic world over the last few decades.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Asif Nawaz, Assistant Professor at the Hamdard Institute of International Studies, expressing appreciation to all speakers and participants. The program was expertly anchored by Mr. Shivam Bahuguna, also an Assistant Professor at the Institute.
