Book on AMU Released at AMU’s Department of Arabic

Aligarh: The Department of Arabic, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), organised a special function to release senior journalist and author Mohammad Wajihuddin’s book “The Aligarh Muslim University: The Making of Modern Indian Muslims.” Three new issues of the Journal of the Indian Academy of Arabic (JIAA) were also launched.

AMU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Naima Khatoon praised Wajihuddin for enhancing the university’s global reputation through his writings and journalism. She described him as a distinguished Alig who has brought the AMU community into international focus.

Former Urdu Academy Director Dr. Rahat Abrar highlighted that Sir Syed’s vision embraced all communities, while Prof. Hakim Syed Zillur Rahman, in his presidential address, recalled his long association with AMU and stressed the need to revisit contributions of neglected figures like Sir Ziauddin.

Wajihuddin said AMU was not just an institution but a movement that shaped generations of Indian Muslims, urging students to go beyond certificates and preserve their love for Urdu and books.

Prof. Sanaullah Nadwi, Chairman, Department of Arabic, welcomed the gathering and underlined the significance of the book, while Prof. Mohammad Faizan Beg, in his vote of thanks, said AMU was a treasure for the nation and its traditions must be preserved.

The event, conducted by Dr. Arafat Zafar, witnessed a large turnout of scholars including Prof. Syed Kafeel Ahmad Qasmi, Prof. Sagheer Afraheim, Mr Bachan Khan, Dr. Fakhr Alam, and Prof. Syed Ziaur Rahman.
