In a world dominated by digital distractions and fleeting values, Bedtime Stories from the Quran by Jafar Sadik offers a refreshing and deeply meaningful alternative: storytelling rooted in faith, character, and timeless wisdom.
The book features 15 beautifully narrated Quranic stories, each filled with moral depth and written in a lucid and simple style – accessible even to young readers. I had the joy of completing this book over 18 days with my children, including my 5-year-old daughter, who not only read the stories on her own but also eagerly participated in the related activities. The clarity of language, engaging themes, and relatable storytelling made it a nightly routine we all looked forward to.
One of the book’s standout features is its focus on animal-based stories, a clever approach that captivates children’s imagination and helps them remember core values more vividly. Lessons on courage, honesty, patience, faith, and kindness are seamlessly woven into each story, nurturing not only knowledge but also moral consciousness.
However, one dimension I felt was underrepresented was the element of leadership. Many of the stories revolve around Prophets (peace be to them), who were not just pious individuals, but leaders of their communities – figures who brought transformation through struggle, vision, and sacrifice. Introducing this leadership aspect could have added another powerful layer to the narrative, helping to instil a sense of responsibility and purpose in children from an early age.
Despite that, Bedtime Stories from the Quran remains a valuable and heart-warming resource for families seeking to enrich their children’s bedtime with stories that matter. It not only revives the tradition of storytelling but also serves as a gentle tool for character development in young minds.
A must-read for every parent who wants to build faith, values, and connection with the Quran – one bedtime at a time.
