Mumbai: A shocking incident occurred in Mazgaon, Mumbai when a burqa-clad man attempted to rob the home of businessman Umar Shamsi. The intruder, armed with a toy gun, threatened the family but was thwarted by the quick thinking and courage of Shamsi’s wife, Sumaira, who disarmed him and raised an alarm.
The incident took place on Monday evening on the 10th floor of Shamsi’s apartment. Sumaira and her 14-year-old daughter, Rida, were at home when the man, disguised in a burqa, entered and pointed a gun at Rida, demanding valuables. At first, Sumaira mistook the intruder’s actions for a prank but soon realised the seriousness of the situation.
Feigning compliance, she claimed the jewellery was in another room and used the moment to snatch the gun from his hand. In a panic, the intruder threatened he had a bomb, but Sumaira’s loud screams alerted neighbours, who intervened and restrained him as he tried to flee.
The man was later identified as Taurikul Shaudul Dalal (30), an employee from the same building’s 11th floor. Police confirmed the weapon was a toy gun. A case has been filed, and Dalal has been arrested.
Authorities commended Sumaira for her bravery, which prevented a potential tragedy and ensured the safety of her family.
