BRS showing fake sympathy for Muslims: Shabbir

Hyderabad, Jan 31: Adviser to the Telangana government on SC, ST, BC, and minority affairs, Mohammed Ali Shabbir, has accused Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) of showing fake sympathy towards Muslims.

He wondered how BRS suddenly became a sympathiser of minorities after neglecting them for 10 years. “After the defeat in Assembly elections the BRS leaders are trying to show that they have sympathy for minorities,” he said and alleged that BRS is trying to target Congress in the name of sympathy for minorities.

The former minister claimed that only Congress party can ensure development and welfare of minorities in Telangana. He said Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy would implement all the promises, especially those made to Muslims.

Shabbir alleged that BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao attempted to create divisions within the Congress by making baseless allegations related to minority issues.

He rebuked Rama Rao’s attempts to show sympathy towards him and asserted that KTR should acknowledge his father KCR’s alleged efforts to hinder his political career.

Shabbir claimed that KCR contested from Kamareddy, with the intention of preventing his victory and subsequent ministerial appointment. He accused BRS leadership of trying to eliminate Muslim leadership within the Congress

The senior Congress leader said before speaking on minority issues, KTR should explain why KCR contested from Kamareddy, which is his native constituency.

It may be recalled that after KCR filed his nomination from Kamareddy, Congress shifted Shabbir to Nizamabad Urban. However, the former minister suffered defeat at the hands of BJP candidate.

“There are 119 Assembly constituencies but why KCR to contest from Kamareddy in addition to his constituency Gajwel. This is because he did not want to see a Muslim leader in the Assembly,” he said.

Shabbir dismissed KTR’s statements expressing concern over the Congress party’s purported neglect of Muslims, accusing KCR of betraying Muslims by not fulfilling the promised 12% reservation.

On KTR’s criticism of Congress for not giving representation to Muslims in the state Cabinet, Shabbir said all Muslim candidates of Congress were defeated and it was KCR who was responsible for shifting him from Kamareddy to Nizamabad Urban.

Shabbir mentioned that he was appointed advisor with the Cabinet rank. A Muslim has been appointed as Additional Advocate General. Amerullah Khan has been appointed as a member of Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC). He said Muslims will also get representation in the appointment of government pleaders in the High Court.
