Brutal Assault on Doctor in Gaya Sparks Outrage, Tejashwi Yadav Slams Nitish Govt

Gaya, Bihar – In a horrifying incident that has triggered widespread condemnation, a rural doctor was brutally assaulted and tied to a tree while attending to a medical emergency in Bihar’s Maoist-affected Gaya district, reported the IANS.
According to police reports, the incident occurred in a village under Gurpa police station jurisdiction. Dr. Jitendra Yadav had gone to the home of a gang-rape survivor to provide emergency care to the victim’s ailing mother. However, soon after his arrival, he was forcefully dragged out of the house by a group of locals and tied to a tree before being mercilessly beaten.
The doctor’s life may have been saved by the courageous act of the survivor’s minor niece, who ran from the scene and alerted a Dial 112 emergency vehicle. Police reached in time and rescued the injured doctor, who was initially taken to Fatehpur Community Health Centre and later referred to Magadh Medical College due to the severity of his injuries.
A video of the assault has since gone viral, prompting strong political reactions. Leader of the Opposition in Bihar, Tejashwi Yadav, sharply criticised Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and compared the state’s law and order situation to that of Taliban-ruled Afghanistan.
“The situation in Bihar is worse than the Taliban,” said Yadav in a social media post. “A doctor who went to save a patient was assaulted by criminals, while the government remains clueless. The Chief Minister is unconscious, the administration is dysfunctional, and officials are looting the state treasury.”
Yadav also blamed two decades of NDA’s rule for eroding public trust in the legal system, leading to increasing incidents of mob justice.
The Bihar police have filed an FIR and launched a search operation to identify and apprehend the culprits. Authorities praised the young girl whose alertness and bravery are believed to have saved the doctor’s life.
The gang-rape of the woman in 2021 had already left the family in trauma. This fresh incident has only added to their pain, while putting a spotlight yet again on the failing law and order situation in rural Bihar.
