The Border Security Force (BSF) paid heartfelt tribute on Saturday to Sub Inspector Md Imteyaz, who was martyred during a fierce exchange of cross-border fire initiated by Pakistani forces along the International Boundary in the R S Pura sector of Jammu. The incident occurred on May 10 amidst escalating tensions between the two nations, reported the Maktoob Media.
Sub Inspector Imteyaz, who was leading a border outpost at the time, was hailed by BSF officials for his exemplary courage and leadership. According to BSF Jammu, he “led from the front” and demonstrated remarkable bravery under heavy fire. His martyrdom came just hours before India and Pakistan agreed to a ceasefire after four days of heightened hostilities.
In response to the tragic loss, the Director General of BSF, accompanied by personnel across ranks, honored Imteyaz’s “supreme sacrifice” and expressed deep condolences to his family and unit. A wreath-laying ceremony with full military honors is scheduled to be held on Sunday at the BSF Frontier Headquarters in Paloura, Jammu.
The R S Pura and Poonch areas witnessed intense shelling and gunfire, while Jammu city also became a target of a drone-based attack, introducing a new phase in the ongoing India-Pakistan conflict. Several lives were lost and properties damaged amid the escalation.
Later on Saturday evening, India’s Ministry of External Affairs confirmed the cessation of hostilities. “Both sides have agreed to halt all firing and military operations on land, sea, and air from 1700 hours IST today,” said Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, emphasizing that both militaries had received orders to maintain the truce.
Sub Inspector Md Imteyaz’s sacrifice stands as a solemn reminder of the daily perils faced by India’s border security personnel. His valor and commitment to duty will be remembered with great honor and gratitude.
