UP Survivor Breaks Barricades to Demand Action as Two Accused Remain Free

New Delhi: A gang rape survivor in Bulandshahr entered a restricted police zone and confronted Deputy Inspector General Kalanidhi Naithani after multiple attempts to secure action failed. The woman said two accused, Shiva and Amarjit, continue to threaten her family. The survivor said six men assaulted her on June 3 in Khurja tehsil. Her family visited the police station several times, and the FIR was filed on June 10. Four accused, Aditya, Sonu, Lalit and Mangal, are in custody, while the remaining two are still absconding.

The survivor reached the DIG’s vehicle during an inspection at Khurja police station. She moved past a large group of personnel and collapsed near the officer while pleading for protection. The confrontation has raised serious questions about local policing and slow action in sexual assault cases. The DIG ordered an inquiry and allowed the survivor to request a change of investigating officer. He also attached the station in charge to police lines.

The survivor accused Inspector Pankajay and other officials of stopping her from approaching senior officers. She said this delayed progress in her case. Superintendent of Police Rudalt Singh acknowledged delays in filing the FIR. He said a special team of senior investigators is working on the arrest of the absconding accused. The district police have promised steps to improve security for the survivor’s family.

Rights groups have pointed to systemic failures in Uttar Pradesh. They say delays, intimidation and slow follow up weaken faith in justice. The case highlights the need for accountability and stronger procedures to support women who seek timely redress.
