Case booked in Hyderabad for a video targeting Muslim community

Hyderabad, Feb 20: Hyderabad Cyber Crime police have registered a case in connection with a video being shared on social media with a communal spin targeting Muslim community in Telangana.

On a complaint by All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) MLA Majid Hussain, police registered a case under section 66(C) and 66(D) of Information Technology Act and under section 196(1) (promoting enmity between different groups and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony), 299 (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings of any class) and 336(4) (using forged electronic record to harm reputation) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The MLA from Nampally constituency lodged the complaint with the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Cyber Crime, seeking action against those who posted the video on ‘X’.

The MLA provided three ‘X’ links of the video in which abusive comments and derogatory allegations were made against the Muslim community, claiming that somebody from the Muslim community is urinating in a sweet tub (Gulab Jamun) in order to distribute the same among the customers of the hotel.

The MLA mentioned in his complaint that it is a fake video as the original video was posted by fact-checker Mohammed Zubair. The video circulated by Sinha and Vinod (strings) is an edited one as the longer version of the video shows the man pouring a transparent liquid into the tub from a bottle, Zubair posted.

Majid Hussain said morphed video and the content was intended to create enmity between two communities. “The post is spreading communal hate and having potential to disturb peace and tranquillity in the society. It is not only intended to create enmity but also targeting minority community and their leader,” the MLA said in his complaint.
