CCRUM Organizes Orientation Programme on POSH Act

In the wake of Kolkata’s RGK Medical college rape-and-murder incident, the Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine (CCRUM), under the Ministry of Ayush, on Tuesday organized an Awareness and Orientation Programme on Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) Act for Ayush professionals.

The event began with introductory remarks by Dr. N. Zaheer Ahmed, Director General, CCRUM, followed by the inaugural address by Meenakshi Negi, Member Secretary, National Commission for Women.

In his address, Dr. Ahmed reaffirmed CCRUM’s commitment to fostering a healthy and inclusive work environment, free from prejudice, gender bias, and harassment. He also highlighted that the Council has established Internal Complaints Committees in each of its 23 peripheral institutes, ensuring a harassment-free workplace for all employees.

Mrs. Negi, in her inaugural speech, underlined the importance of Gender equality and significance of the POSH Act, calling it a comprehensive legislation designed to prevent, prohibit, and redress sexual harassment in workplaces across India. She informed that the Act, enacted in 2013, has played a pivotal role in safeguarding women in workplaces nationwide.

The programme featured two key sessions focusing on Gender Sensitization and the POSH Act. NCW Law Officer Manmohan Verma and NCW Counsellor Tunika Sharma were keynote speakers.

The event concluded with a strong message of commitment to creating safer work environments for all. Around 300 staff participated from all Research Councils in the program organised in hybrid mode.

Dr. Ghazala Javed, Assistant Director (Unani) at CCRUM, delivered welcome address and proposed a vote of thanks.
