New Delhi, Jan. 3: As per media reports, there is possibility that the Central Government can notify CAA before the Lok Sabha elections. According to reports citing Home Ministry sources, the rules and regulations of this law will be implemented soon. CAA rules will likely come into effect in January or February.
According to the TOI report, when the government official was asked whether the CAA rules would be notified before the Lok Sabha elections, he replied, “Yes, much before that.” The official further said, “We are going to issue CAA rules soon. After the rules are issued, the law can be implemented and eligible people can be given Indian citizenship. The law has been delayed by more than four years and rules are necessary to implement the law.”
A portal has also been prepared for this. Eligible migrants coming from neighboring countries will only have to apply online on the portal and the Home Ministry will verify it and issue citizenship.
Under CAA, there is a provision to give Indian citizenship to six minorities (Hindus, Christians, Sikhs, Jains, Buddhists and Parsis) coming from Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh before 31 December 2014. For this, there is no need to provide any documents to the displaced people coming from these three countries.
