Tej Lal Bharti, a prominent Gandhian leader and President of Hakim Ajmal Khan Forum for Peace and Communal Harmony has criticised the recent changes made to the Class VIII Social Science textbook published by NCERT. He termed the alterations misleading and equivalent to spreading hatred against the Mughals.
In a statement issued today, he stated that individuals with a particular communal mindset have portrayed the Mughals as enemies of India in the revised textbook, whereas the fact remains that the Mughals, during their centuries-long rule in India, promoted justice and socialism in the country. At a time when India was fragmented, they helped establish a unified nation. Moreover, the Mughals never used derogatory language against any religion, considered India their homeland, and consistently worked to break down the barriers of social hierarchy regardless of religion.
Mr. Bharti has urged the Government of India to take action against those who are spreading hatred among the people and to formulate a strategy to maintain peace, harmony, and brotherhood in the country.
