Chidambaram Calls for Focus on Real Issues Amidst PM’s Allegations

29 Apr. 24: Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to shift focus from imagined controversies to real issues outlined in the Congress manifesto.

Chidambaram’s remarks come in response to repeated attacks by the Prime Minister regarding Congress leader Sam Pitroda’s comments on ‘inheritance tax’ and the broader debate on ‘wealth redistribution’.

Dismissing the Prime Minister’s claims, Chidambaram emphasized that the phrase ‘inheritance tax’ does not feature in the Congress manifesto, which he chaired the drafting committee for.

He clarified Congress’s stance on taxation, highlighting promises of transparency, equity, and tax relief for small businesses, rather than any mention of inheritance tax.

Furthermore, Chidambaram outlined other key points from the manifesto, including plans to overhaul the tax system, provide relief to shopkeepers, and introduce GST 2.0.

Expressing disappointment with the Prime Minister’s focus on imaginary issues, Chidambaram called for a debate on the real issues outlined in the Congress manifesto.

Earlier, Chidambaram had criticized the BJP for manufacturing controversies and resorting to distortion and falsehoods, suggesting that fear has gripped the party as its promises fail to materialize.

He reiterated that the Congress manifesto is inclusive and promises justice for all sections of society, regardless of religion.
