Child Rights Panel Raises Alarm Over Drugs Sold as Candies Outside Chandigarh Schools

Chandigarh – The Chandigarh Commission for the Protection of Child Rights (CCPCR) has issued a warning regarding a new drug, ‘Strawberry Quick,’ allegedly being sold as candies outside private schools in the city.
CCPCR Chairperson Shipra Bansal stated that the drug, disguised as colorful candies shaped like teddy bears, is being distributed to students of Classes 11 and 12 under the pretense of enhancing concentration. Reports indicate that the drug is currently being given free to lure students into addiction.
Authorities have been alerted, but no seizures have been made yet. CCPCR suspects that the drug contains methamphetamine, a highly addictive substance, similar to cases observed in other parts of the country. The advisory calls for increased police patrolling, awareness programs, and student counseling.
Selling such substances near schools is punishable under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, with a minimum sentence of 10 years in prison and a fine of at least ₹1 lakh.
Although UT Police has not received the advisory yet, officials have assured they will collaborate with health authorities to address the issue.
