Children Advocate for Udaipur Lake Conservation in Peaceful Protest

Udaipur: A group of young children on Wednesday expressed their deep concern over the declining health of Udaipur’s lakes by engaging in a peaceful demonstration, embodying the principles of non-violence (Gandhigiri). Armed with placards advocating for the protection of these vital water bodies and roses in their hands, the children visited Additional District Collector to submit a memorandum outlining their concerns.

Councilor Hidayatullah addressed the gathering, highlighting the detrimental effects of diesel boats operating on Fatehsagar Lake. He pointed out that these activities not only contribute to pollution but also suffocate local wildlife, notably birds and fish. The once-abundant birdlife around Udaipur’s lakes is diminishing due to increasing noise pollution, raising alarms about their potential extinction for future generations. Hidayatullah also noted that encroachments have severely altered the natural landscape of the lakes and rivers, with many small ponds disappearing entirely. He warned that without immediate action, Udaipur’s lakes could face a similar fate.

The group submitted their memorandum, urging local authorities to implement effective solutions to manage sewage and waste flowing into the lakes. The Additional District Collector assured the children and their supporters that the administration is actively addressing these concerns, promising positive results in the near future.

Notable figures present at the event included Haji Mohammad Baksh, Tarannum Khan, Shahjad Khan, Munna Sahab, Nazim, Bushra Tanwar, Ashok Meghvanshi, Idris Bhai, and several schoolchildren.
