New Delhi, June 3: The National Capital witnessed a robust demonstration of solidarity with Palestine. Diverse civil rights organizations, student collectives, and political factions converged in a unified show of solidarity, at Jantar Mantar here Saturday to express unwavering support for Palestine and condemn the ongoing conflict in the region.
The two protests, held during the morning and evening sessions, drew around 500 participants each, featuring impassioned speeches, captivating artistic performances, and a steadfast display of solidarity with the Palestinian cause.
Representatives from a myriad of organizations, including AISA, the Fraternity Movement, Pragatisheel Mahila Sangathan, Janwadi Mahila Samiti, SFI, CPI(M), CITU, DYFI, AIDSO, RWPI, KYS, among others, came together to voice their unwavering support for Palestine.
Influential figures such as Sitaram Yechury of CPI(M) and Delhi Deputy Mayor Aaley Mohammad Iqbal from AAP joined the protests, standing shoulder to shoulder with numerous unaffiliated individuals from across the city.
Addressing the gathering, Yechury unequivocally denounced the ongoing conflict as a genocide, rebuking the Modi government’s support for Netanyahu’s regime in Israel. He urged for global pressure to halt the offensive and demanded accountability by calling for Netanyahu to be tried for war crimes at the International Court of Justice.
Hanan Shanavas, a member of the Fraternity Movement’s national general council, noted the notably restrained response from the Delhi police during the protests. Shanavas attributed this moderation to external pressure, which allowed the demonstrations to proceed without interference or detainment.
