Closing Govt. Schools is Unfortunate, Condemnable: Muhammad Nazimuddin

– Raheem Khan

Jaipur: Muhammad Nazimuddin, President of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Rajasthan, has stated that the Rajasthan government’s decision to close 450 schools is extremely unfortunate, worrisome, and condemnable.

He said closing schools based on low student numbers in government schools is not a proper decision. On the contrary, there are still many areas in Rajasthan where children from OBCs, SCs, and STs are deprived of primary and essential education, and there is a need to open new schools in those areas. He drew the government’s attention to the fact that according to the Right to Education Act, it is necessary to open schools in the locality where children can easily go and get education.

Nazimuddin said it’s also noteworthy that the government, while taking the decision to close schools, has violated the RTE Act by not taking the local people, school management committee, and gram sabha into confidence, which is contrary to the spirit of Right to Education Act.

He also said that due to the lack of proper resources and quality education, parents are forced to admit their children to private schools and pay a hefty fee, which is impossible for the poor.

Expressing concern over girls’ education in this context, he said this decision will have a far-reaching impact on girls’ education. Girls studying in rural areas will now be forced to sit at home instead of studying due to this decision of the government, which claims to save and educate daughters. It is also noteworthy that once a school is closed, it is difficult to reopen it. 17,000 schools were closed during the previous BJP government, which could not be reopened.

Nazimuddin suggested to the government that the government should immediately withdraw the decision to close the schools and conduct a survey of the closed schools and reopen the closed schools by taking the parents into confidence.

He said the government should take such steps so that more and more students are attracted towards government schools.
