Bengaluru: Former Union Minister CM Ibrahim has announced plans to launch a new political party, citing widespread public dissatisfaction with existing political options in Karnataka. Speaking at a press conference in Bengaluru, Ibrahim said the state requires a fresh alternative as voters feel disillusioned with the three major parties.
Ibrahim served as Union Minister for Civil Aviation during the tenure of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda. He later parted ways with the Janata Dal Secular following allegations of anti party activity. Addressing reporters, he said leaders and legislators from the BJP, Congress, and JDS have reached out to him. He added they await the formal launch of the new party and its election symbol before making any decisions.
He announced plans to hold meetings of like minded individuals across Karnataka. The first meeting is scheduled in Kalaburagi, followed by consultations in Mysuru and Belagavi. These meetings aim to shape the party structure and finalise its symbol. Ibrahim said the proposed party will draw inspiration from the ideas of Basavanna and Dr B R Ambedkar, with a focus on social justice and inclusive governance.
Ibrahim criticised mainstream parties for avoiding clear commitments on leadership representation. He said no party openly supports the idea of a Dalit or a Muslim becoming chief minister. He also alleged an informal power sharing understanding between the Congress and BJP for future governance.
He further claimed internal rivalry between Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar risks deepening political divisions in the state. Ibrahim recalled his earlier role in supporting Siddaramaiah’s electoral victories in Chamundeshwari and Badami constituencies. He said his political experience equips him to build a platform addressing voter concerns through dialogue and policy clarity.
