Hyderabad: A group of retired professors, educationalists, social activists and political leaders have sought intervention of Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy in the matter related to denial of admissions in Urdu Ph.D. in Osmania University.
In a memorandum to the Chief Minister, they said the admission in Urdu Ph.D. are not happening since last year on the pretext that guides in Urdu are not available. They termed the reason as false and baseless and brought to the Chief Minister’s notice that Urdu guides are available.
“It may not be out of context to mention that Osmania University which started in 1918 was teaching all the subjects including Medicine and Engineering in Urdu medium,” reads the memorandum.
The retired professors and activists mentioned that former chief minister Dr Marri Chenna Reddy and several prominent physicians and surgical giants procured their respective degrees in Urdu. “OU was the shining star among universities in India. Suddenly, the administration on a false pretext disallowed admissions in Urdu Ph.D.,” they wrote, urging the CM to instruct the concerned authorities to allow admissions of Ph.D. in Urdu language also.
The academicians also demanded preservation of all records of the Indian Council of Social Science Research-Southern Regional Centre (ICSSR-SCR). They mentioned that the records are about to be destroyed without preserving and digitalising them. The records include important reports and documents about Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
Stating that the record is precious for future researchers, they underlined the need to preserve it.
The signatories to the memorandum include Prof Rahmat Yousufzai, Prof. Majeed Bedar, Prof Ameer Ali, Prof Anwar, Prof. Oudesh Rani, Prof Durgesh Rajendra Prasad, former MP Syed Azeez Pasha, and Sara Mathews.
