Aligarh: The Department of Anaesthesiology, J.N. Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), in collaboration with the Aligarh City Branch of the Indian Society for Study of Pain (ISSP), organised a Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme-cum-workshop on “Targeted Radiofrequency Lesioning in the Management of Trigeminal Neuralgia and Other Facial Conditions”. The academic event drew participation from eminent pain management experts across the country.
The Chief Guest, AMU Vice Chancellor Prof Naima Khatoon felicitated the distinguished resource persons and commended their dedication to training future pain physicians. She also released the inaugural edition of the departmental newsletter, Vital Connections, in both print and digital formats. Congratulating the department, she appreciated its commitment to academic excellence and patient care and assured continued administrative support for the advancement of healthcare services at J.N. Medical College Hospital.

Prof. V.K. Mohan, former AIIMS faculty and currently Consultant at ESI Hospital, New Delhi, delivered an insightful lecture on the “Anatomy and Fluoro-anatomy of the Sphenopalatine and Gasserian Ganglia.” He emphasised its relevance in modern interventional pain management.
Prof. Pradeep Jain, Senior Consultant at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi, elaborated on the emerging role of radiofrequency lesioning in managing facial pain.
Prof. Anurag Agarwal, National Secretary of ISSP and Pain & Spine Physician at R.M.L. Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow, addressed advanced interventions in facial pain treatment. He expressed his gratitude to AMU for hosting the event and commended the university’s active role in advancing pain care standards nationally through academic collaborations with ISSP.
Prof. M. Habib Raza, Dean, Principal and CMS, J.N. Medical College and Hospital, underscored the importance of early diagnosis and intervention in debilitating facial pain conditions.
Earlier, the programme commenced with a welcome address by the Organising Chairperson and Chairperson of the Department, Prof. Hammad Usmani, followed by academic sessions conducted by Dr. Nazia Tauheed, Assistant Professor in the department.
The Organising Secretary, Prof. Syed Hussain Amir extended a vote of thanks.
The workshop featured live demonstrations of radiofrequency lesioning and related interventions on seven patients from the Pain Clinic – four with Trigeminal Neuralgia, and others suffering from Glossopharyngeal Neuralgia, Postherpetic Neuralgia, and severe neuropathic facial pain related to carcinoma of the oral cavity.
