Bathinda: A cobbler employed for over seven years at the Bathinda Military Station has come under investigation after being suspected of engaging in potentially compromising WhatsApp conversations. Sunil Kumar, a local resident, was handed over to the Bathinda police by Army authorities for further inquiry, reported the Times of India
The case came to light when Kumar was found chatting with an unidentified woman who allegedly tried to obtain sensitive logistical information about the military installation. Authorities have not yet confirmed whether this was a honeytrap operation or if the woman had links to a spy agency.
The mobile phone used in the conversation has been seized and sent for forensic examination. Preliminary investigations suggest that no sensitive information was shared, though police have retrieved past chats and visuals dating back to 2023.
Bathinda SP (Investigation) Narinder Singh confirmed that a formal case has been registered at the Cantt Police Station and that investigations are in the early stages. The Army had alerted the police and requested a thorough probe.
In a separate but unrelated development, police are also probing a suspicious call received by the son of a soldier stationed at Bathinda. Authorities are currently examining if it has any espionage links.
