30 Jun. 24: In a disturbing incident aimed at inciting communal unrest, over 60 bovine animals, including cows and oxen, were found killed in Seoni district, Madhya Pradesh. Police have arrested 24 individuals in connection with the crime, with eight of the accused hailing from Nagpur where the plot was allegedly conceived, as per a report published by the Indian Express.
Authorities discovered the carcasses of 18 cows with their throats slit in the Vainganga river near Pindrai village. An additional 28 carcasses were found in the Kakartala forest area under Dhuma police station limits on June 19 and 20. Subsequent searches revealed more remains throughout the district.
“The perpetrators were financially incentivized to commit these acts, and several local residents of Seoni were also implicated,” a police official reportedly stated.
In response to the incident, Seoni’s District Collector Kshitij Singhal and Superintendent of Police Rakesh Kumar Singh have been reassigned.
The authorities are continuing their investigation to fully uncover the extent and motivations behind the plot, which was seemingly designed to provoke communal discord.
