Hyderabad: The United Muslim Forum (UMF) has voiced concern over the growing activities of communal elements in Telangana.
UMF, an umbrella group of various religious organisations belonging to different schools of thought, urged the Congress government in the state to shed its cold attitude and act firmly against the communal forces. It raised questions over the government’s inaction despite the growing activities of the communal elements, especially in Komaram Bheem Asifabad district.
In a statement, UMF president Moulana Mufti Syed Sadeq Mohiuddin and other senior leaders like Moulana Khalid Saifullah Rahmani, Moulana Akbar Nizamuddin and Moulana Mohammed Hussamuddin Saani Jaffer Pasha said they were concerned over deteriorating law and order situation and increasing activities of communal forces in the state.
They referred to the recent incident of mob violence against a Muslim youth in Kagaz Nagar in Asifabad district. Jainoor town in the same district had earlier witnessed large-scale communal violence. The town is still tense and the victims of violence were not even paid compensation.
The Muslim leaders said communal organisations were roaming around the district to spread hate against the Muslims but the district administration and police were not acting against them.
They said though Chief Minister Revanth Reddy also holds the home portfolio, the activities of communal elements were not being checked.
The UMF leaders stated that communal elements were resorting to mischief on one pretext or the other in different parts of the state, including Zaheerabad town of Sangareddy district, Siddipet, Medak and even Hyderabad. The in-charge and students of a madrasa in Secunderabad were harassed. They said communalism at its peak in Secunderabad as those with caps and beards were being questioned.
The leaders said though videos of such incidents went viral, the police and administration were not acting against the communal elements. Attempts are also being made to spread hate through social media.
They demanded the Chief Minister to take serious note of the recent incidents and deal firmly with the miscreants. They also wanted the government to expose the sympathisers of the communal elements. They demanded rehabilitation of the victims of Jainoor violence.
The UMF leaders hoped that the government would take immediate steps to protect the state from the activities of communal elements and remove the uneasiness among minorities, especially Muslims.
It may be recalled that UMF had declared support to the ruling Congress party in Lok Sabha elections.
It had appealed to Muslims to vote for Congress candidates in 16 out of 17 constituencies in the state.
For Hyderabad, UMF had backed All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM). The UMF had backed Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) in Telangana Assembly elections held in November 2023.
