New Delhi: A police complaint has been lodged against Yati Narsinghanand for inciting communal hatred and making inflammatory remarks against Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and the Holy Qur’an, posing a threat to national integrity. The complaint was filed at Shaheen Bagh Police Station here Monday.
Advocate Farid Khan, along with concerned citizens Advocate Sheikh Imran, Advocate Faiq Mustafa, Abdus Samad, Mohd Riyasuddin, Inamur Rehman Khan, and Waris Husain, submitted the complaint. They invoked several sections of Bhartiya Nayaya Sanhita, including Sections 152, 196, 197, 299, 302, 351(1), 351(2), 352, and 353, addressing the content of a speech delivered by Yati on September 29, at the Major Asharam Vyag Seva Sansthan in the Dasna temple, Ghaziabad, where Yati serves as Head Priest. The complaint highlights that his speech, which has been widely circulated on social media and broadcasted nationwide, blatantly violates the legal provisions.
“In the speech, Yati Narsinghanand intentionally used language designed to insult the religious sentiments of the Muslim community and incite enmity between the Hindu and Muslim communities. His remarks also undermine national integration,” the complaint noted.
The applicants emphasized that Yati specifically asked for his speech to be recorded and made viral, saying, “Is anyone recording or not? Record everything and make it viral,” before making derogatory comments about Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and the Qur’an.
The complaint further referenced instances where Yati called on Hindus not to burn effigies of Meghnad, Kumbhkaran, and Ravana during Dussehra but instead burn effigies of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, stating, “If you have to burn effigies on every Dussehra, then burn the effigies of Muhammad.”
He further alleged that “Lakhs and crores of sisters and daughters are being raped because of your mugger Mohammad, because of whom the whole world is under bloodshed.”
The complaint underscored that this is not Yati’s first instance of making anti-Muslim hate speeches. In the past, he has made inflammatory statements, including at the Press Club of India on April 3, 2021, where he caused social unrest with his hate speech. In a separate interview, Yati referred to Prophet Mohammad ﷺ as a “monster” and likened Islam to “a dirty disease,” also referring to Muslim women as “sexual objects.”
Furthermore, in December 2021, at a Haridwar event, he openly called for the genocide of Muslims in India.
The applicant expressed concern that despite numerous public hate speeches by Yati, there has been a failure to deter him through legal action. His insistence on recording and sharing his latest anti-Muslim speech shows a blatant disregard for law and order. The widespread circulation of his inflammatory remarks on social media and national television poses a significant threat to the country’s constitutional values, particularly those of fraternity and secularism.
The complaint urges the immediate registration of an FIR against Yati Narsinghanand for violating the provisions of BNS, and calls for appropriate legal action to be taken.
