Jaipur, March 10: A Zakat Conference on “Social and Economic Impacts of Zakat” was organized here Sunday. The keynote speaker was Abdul Jabbar Siddiqui, National Secretary General of Zakat Center India.

In his address, Siddiqui highlighted the importance of Zakat in Islam and emphasized that it’s obligatory for every wealthy Muslim to pay it. He said Zakat is the right of the poor in the wealth of the rich and by paying Zakat, the affluent can play a significant role in poverty eradication by helping the poor and needy stand on their own feet.

Siddiqui also stressed that if affluent Muslims were to collectively collect Zakat and spend it in a planned manner on activities such as providing employment for the poor, it would be possible to uplift society at all levels very quickly.

Jaipur City Mufti Zakir Nomani also addressed the program and answered the questions of the audience along with the National Secretary General.

Shabbir Khan ‘Carpet’, President of Jaipur Unit of Zakat Center India, spoke about the need for the establishment of Zakat Center India and said Muslims in India donate around 35 thousand crore rupees in Zakat every year, but due to the lack of a collective system, this entire amount is being wasted. He said with a collective system of Zakat, many problems of the Muslim society can be easily solved and a significant contribution can be made to nation-building.
