Congress Chief Appeals: ‘Attend My Funeral If You Think I’ve Served Kalaburagi’

25 Apr. 24: Today in Kalaburagi, Congress President M. Mallikarjun Kharge emotionally connected with his constituents, urging them to attend his funeral if they believed in his service to the district, even if they choose not to vote for his party in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

At a campaign rally in Afzalpur, Kharge, aged 81, expressed his sentiments, emphasizing that if voters did not choose the Congress candidate, he would feel he no longer had a place in Kalaburagi. The Congress has fielded Kharge’s son-in-law, Radhakrishna Doddamani, against the BJP’s sitting MP Umesh Jadhav in this electoral contest.

“Whether you vote for us (Congress) or not, but at least come to my funeral if you think that I have done for Kalaburagi,” Kharge remarked, stressing his commitment to the district.

Kharge, a seasoned politician who has represented Kalaburagi in the past, pledged to continue his political journey to counter what he sees as divisive ideologies. “I am born for politics. Whether or not I will contest the election, I will strive till my last breath to save the Constitution and democracy of this country. I will not retire from politics,” he affirmed.

He also advised Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, present at the rally, to stay committed to their shared values. “I tell Siddaramaiah repeatedly that you may retire as CM or MLA, but you cannot retire from politics till you defeat the ideology of the BJP and RSS.”

Kharge’s appeal, with its emotive tone and political resolve, underscores the intensity of the ongoing election campaign in Karnataka and the wider national context of Indian politics.

The Congress leader’s message resonates amid the charged atmosphere of electoral dynamics, where personal connections and principles intertwine with the pursuit of political objectives.
