Congress Slams J&K Govt Over Security Lapse for MP Syed Naseer Hussain

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Congress has accused the Union Territory administration of negligence and political bias after Rajya Sabha MP and AICC general secretary in-charge of J&K and Ladakh, Syed Naseer Hussain, was denied adequate security and transport during his recent visit to the Valley.

JKPCC President Tariq Hamid Karra addressed a press conference in Srinagar, describing the lapse as a violation of protocol. He said Hussain was left without official vehicles and was provided only one personal security officer at the airport, which was against established norms.

Karra alleged that while opposition leaders are being sidelined, BJP leaders are receiving preferential treatment. “It is shocking that an MP of Hussain’s stature, entrusted with key organisational responsibilities, was denied mandatory security. This reflects a deliberate attempt to undermine opposition voices,” he said.

He revealed that when party leaders confronted officials, they were told that vehicles are not provided to MPs, which he termed unacceptable. Karra warned that such selective treatment undermines democratic fairness and erodes public trust.

The Congress leadership has decided to raise the issue with both the Centre and the UT administration. The party demanded action against officials responsible, stating that accountability is essential to prevent recurrence.

The incident has heightened concerns about politicisation of security in the region, with Congress insisting that all elected representatives deserve equal respect, protection, and protocol, regardless of party affiliation.
