Congress Demands Coaching Centre Regulation, Kanhaiya Blames Govt for Student Suicides

–  Abdul Bari Masoud
New Delhi: Concerned over rising student suicides, Congress demanded regulation of private coaching centres for jobs and professional courses. The party accused these centres of profiteering and exploiting students.
At a press conference at the AICC office, senior Congress leader and CWC member Kanhaiya Kumar said coaching centres were rapidly increasing, charging hefty fees, and some vanished overnight.
He revealed that 28 students die by suicide daily, blaming the government for systemic failure. The system pressures students with unrealistic dreams, while lack of jobs leaves them hopeless. He urged the government to fill vacancies transparently and conduct fair exams.
Kumar highlighted how coaching centres exploit aspirants. Despite limited vacancies, lakhs enroll, desperate for success. The vacancies stay the same, but these centres thrive on students’ desperation.
He alleged a nexus between the government and market forces, fostering unfair competition. Some students are showcased as getting ₹1 crore packages to lure others, but he questioned how many actually secure such jobs.
He urged the government to strengthen public institutions. If the public sector improves, the private sector will follow and act responsibly.
