Congress Demands Yogi’s Resignation Over Rising Atrocities on Dalits and Muslims in Uttar Pradesh

New Delhi: The Congress Party has called for the resignation of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, accusing his government of presiding over a collapse of law and order and allowing growing atrocities against Dalits and Muslims.

Addressing a press conference at the AICC headquarters, Rajinder Pal Gautam, Chairman of the Congress Scheduled Caste Department, and Member of Parliament Imran Masood presented a video of a Dalit youth’s lynching in Raebareli. The youth was beaten to death on camera, and the attackers mocked him when he mentioned Rahul Gandhi before dying. Gautam said such incidents reflect a state where criminals act without fear and justice is denied to the marginalized.

He demanded the Chief Minister’s resignation, Rs 1 crore compensation for victims’ families, and fast-track trials for all cases of mob lynching and hate crimes. Citing National Crime Records Bureau data, Gautam said that in five BJP-ruled states, atrocities against Dalits have risen by 75 percent, with Uttar Pradesh alone accounting for over 26 percent of such incidents. He said institutional discrimination has become the new normal under the current regime.

Imran Masood alleged that the Yogi government has failed to uphold constitutional values and accused it of promoting “bulldozer justice.” He said the administration treats Muslims and Dalits harshly while turning a blind eye to Hindutva elements responsible for violence. He pointed to cases in Bareilly, Fatehpur, and Muzaffarnagar as evidence of biased policing.

Masood added that he was virtually placed under house arrest to prevent him from visiting Bareilly. He said the government’s actions reveal that the rule of law has been replaced by the rule of ideology.

The Congress leaders said Rahul Gandhi had spoken to the victim’s family, while Amethi MP KL Sharma and PCC President Ajay Rai met them in person. The party plans to form a fact-finding committee and release a detailed report on rising hate crimes and caste-based violence in Uttar Pradesh.
