Hyderabad, April 25: Mohammed Sameer Waliullah has entered the fray as Congress candidate in the Hyderabad Lok Sabha constituency.
The Hyderabad District Congress Committee president on Wednesday filed his nomination.
He is the only Muslim candidate fielded by a major political party against sitting MP and AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi.
BJP has fielded a woman, Madhavi Latha, as its candidate while Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has given ticket to Gaddam Srinivas Yadav.
Sameer is the only Muslim candidate from Congress for Lok Sabha elections in Telangana. He has dedicated nearly two decades to the Congress party.
He earlier served as chairman of the Hyderabad Congress Minorities Department and claimed to have fearlessly navigated AIMIM-dominated areas, making significant strides for the Congress party. Sameer is also a leading entrepreneur in Hyderabad, heading Sameer Promoters & Resorts. He is also the Editor-in-Chief of Indian News Network (INN).
Meanwhile, Union Minister for Information & Broadcasting, Sports and Youth Affairs Anurag Singh Thakur on Wednesday held a roadshow near historic Charminar in support of BJP candidate Madhavi Latha.
They performed puja at the temple abutting the monument and led a rally. The central minister raised the slogan ‘Owaisi ka nahin koi ata-pata, jabse aai Madhavi Latha’.
He exuded confidence that the BJP will wrest the seat from AIMIM, which has been winning it for the last 40 years.
AIMIM has never lost an election from Hyderabad since 1984. Asaduddin Owaisi is seeking re-election for the fifth consecutive term. His father late Sultan Salahuddin Owaisi was elected from Hyderabad for six terms.
