Congress Leader Advocates for Alliance with AIMIM in Telangana to Challenge BRS Dominance

Hyderabad, April 12: In a strategic move ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Telangana, a senior Congress leader, Mohammed Feroz Khan, has proposed an alliance between the Congress party and the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) led by Asaduddin Owaisi. This alliance is aimed at countering the dominance of Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao’s Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) in the southern state.

Mohammed Feroz Khan, the general secretary of the Telangana Congress, emphasized that the primary goal of the Congress in Telangana is to uproot the BRS, and if that necessitates collaborating with Owaisi’s AIMIM then it should be pursued. Despite clarifying that no official directive has been issued from the Congress high command regarding this alliance, Khan expressed his readiness to comply if such orders were given.

“It’s my personal statement, considering whatever is happening around us, that we should join hands with the AIMIM to achieve our mission of eliminating the BRS,” stated Feroz Khan during an interview with Aaj Tak, a sister channel of India Today TV.

Notably, Khan highlighted his commitment to the Congress party and its leadership, indicating that he would adhere to any official decision made by the high command to support the AIMIM. He underscored his dedication to strengthening the Congress and Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s position in Telangana.

Telangana is poised to witness a three-way electoral battle, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Congress, and BRS contesting for dominance. The BRS, having lost the state to Congress in the recent assembly elections, is striving to regain its footing amidst defections. The BJP, buoyed by its improved performance in the 2023 state elections, is eager to expand its electoral base further.

The upcoming Lok Sabha elections hold significant stakes for all parties involved, particularly for BRS, which is grappling with an existential challenge following its unexpected defeat in the assembly polls. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s Congress administration is keen on maintaining its electoral momentum post-assembly victory.

In 2019, the BRS secured the highest number of Lok Sabha seats in Telangana, followed by BJP, Congress, and AIMIM. This time, the BJP has nominated K. Madhavi Latha to contest against Owaisi, setting the stage for a closely contested electoral showdown.

The proposed alliance between Congress and AIMIM, if materialized, could reshape the political landscape of Telangana and pose a formidable challenge to the incumbent BRS. As the election fervor intensifies, all eyes are on the evolving political dynamics and strategic maneuvers in this pivotal southern state.
