Congress leader Azmatullah Hussaini elected chairman of Telangana Wakf Board

Hyderabad, Feb 17: Congress leader Syed Azmatullah Hussaini has been elected as the new Chairman of the Telangana Waqf Board.

Hussaini, a youth Congress leader, was last week nominated member of the Waqf Board by the new Congress government. At a meeting of the Board held on Friday, he was unanimously elected the chairman. The meeting was attended by all members including the newly nominated members Hussaini and Ayesha Masarrat Khanam.

Malik Motasim Khan proposed the name of Azmatullah Hussaini for the post of chairman and all the members supported it.

Azmatullah Hussaini, Moulana Syed Ali Shah Ali Akbar Nizamuddin Sabri, Malik Motasim Khan, Moulana Syed Abul Fateh Bandagi Pasha Quadri, Moulana Syed Nisar Hussain Haider Agha, Z.H. Javeed and Ayesha Khanam are the members of the Board. Chief Executive Officer Syed Khaja Moinuddin also attended the meeting.

Azmatullah Hussaini will take charge as the chairman on February 21. Talking to media persons, he thanked Almighty Allah for choosing him for this post. He said he would try to do his best to fulfil the responsibilities as the chairman. He later met Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and thanked him.

Hussaini assured that he will take decisions for the protection and development of Wakf properties only with the consultation of all concerned.

He was elected chairman for the remainder of the term of Masiullah Khan, who was removed as chairman after the Congress party formed the government. The new government nominated Azmatullah Hussaini as the member in place of Masiullah Khan. The new government also nominated government officer Ayesha Masarrat Khanam as member of Wakf Board in place of Yasmeen Basha.

Hussaini’s political journey began with the National Students Union of India (NSUI), the student wing of the Congress. He gradually rose through the ranks, holding significant positions within the party in united Andhra Pradesh and later in Telangana.

He served as a general Secretary and spokesperson, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee looking after Warangal and Khammam district and State Convenor and Incharge Rajiv Gandhi Panchayti Raj Sangathan (RGPRS) from April 2016 to June 2021. He was earlier National General Secretary of Indian Youth Congress from December 2012 to August 2015 as Territorial Incharges for Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and West Bengal.

Acknowledging his commitment to public service and his leadership within the party, the Congress government last week nominated him as member of Wakf Board.
